Transportation for Fairbanks Winter Tours

Getting around Fairbanks in the winter can be stressful for visitors. Rideshare apps often do not work well, taxis are limited, and icy roads can make driving unfamiliar areas feel risky. Many travelers book amazing tours, then realize they are unsure how they will safely get to and from their activities.

Rod’s Alaskan Guide Service solves this problem with our Transportation Add-On. This service gives guests a simple, dependable ride between Fairbanks and North Pole hotels (or Walmart) and Rod’s tour location in a warm, clearly marked, company van. The shuttle is pre-booked at your tour checkout and stays in contact with both guests and tour staff, so everyone knows exactly where to be and when. It removes the stress of winter driving and makes getting to your adventure easy, safe, and comfortable.

OTHER TRANSPORT OPTIONS

If our shuttle service is not available to you, or if you just prefer to book your own travel, please visit our transportation partners below to arrange transport.

Tours Eligible For Transportation

Transportation services are available exclusively for the following Rod’s Alaskan Guide Service experiences that begin at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Transportation is not available for evening ice fishing/aurora viewing tours.

Pricing and Fare Structure

This pricing model simplifies trip planning by eliminating variable distance fees and ensuring guests know their transportation costs in advance.

  • Transportation is offered at a fixed rate of $50 per person.
  • A two-person minimum is required.
  • Single travelers without additional passengers may still reserve transportation for a flat $100 total fare.
  • All fares include round-trip service (to and from the tour site).

Pickup Locations

Authorized pickup points are limited to centralized, easily accessible locations.

  • All Fairbanks and North Pole area hotels
  • Walmart (Fairbanks area)
  • Downtown Fairbanks AirBnb’s

Pickup from private residences or BnB’s outside of the downtown Fairbanks area is not available. Guests staying at such accommodations are advised to arrange transportation to an eligible pickup point using licensed taxi services, rental vehicles, or pre-arranged shuttle providers.

Schedule and Return Timing

  • Transportation operates only for tours beginning at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
  • Pickup occurs about one hour before your scheduled tour time (usually 11:00AM and 12:00PM) to accommodate travel time and tour check-in time.
  • If you are not present at your pickup location, and do not notify the driver, the driver will wait about ten-fifteen minutes before moving on to the next pickup, so be sure to confirm your contact information and stay in-touch.

Return to Fairbanks or North Pole typically occurs 30 to 60 minutes after tour completion, depending on road and weather conditions.

Additional Information

Booking Process and Availability

Transportation is reserved during the tour booking process. Guests may select transportation at checkout when completing their tour reservation. Because seating availability may sell out independently of tour capacity, early booking is strongly recommended. Same-day transportation requests are discouraged and may not be accommodated.

Travel Advisories and Regional Considerations

  • App-based rideshare services such as Uber and Lyft are considered unreliable for pickup at Rod’s tour locations and are not recommended for return transportation.

  • Guests driving themselves are advised to pre-arrange winter-capable transportation or use established local shuttle services in advance.

Summary

By eliminating uncertainty, enhancing comfort, and ensuring coordinated communication between guests and tour operators, the program functions as both a logistical service and a visitor-experience enhancement for travelers seeking safe and efficient access to interior Alaska’s winter adventures.
